Sydney Bondi Beach
66
Australia is a land that is quite clearly known for its excellent beach destinations, and anybody in the vicinity of Sydney would be well advised to go check out BondiBeach to see a stellar example of just how nice the country’s beaches can actually be. Located towards the city’s Eastern Suburbs district, BondiBeach is a neighborhood with a fine beachfront situated some 7 kilometers (4 miles) to the east of downtown; it happens to be the closest ocean beach to the city center.
Bondi is pleasantly varied, with a dominant air of trendiness exuded by the various mid- to upscale resorts that abound around town that is juxtaposed against the somewhat alternative and eccentric style of many of the residents and visitors. The beach stretches for about a kilometer, with a pleasant oceanfront walkway and various parks farther inland that amplify the outdoor recreation options in around the beach.
Activities in Bondi
In the center of town and right along the beach, visitors will discover Campbell Parade, the strip where most of the towns shops, boutiques, bars and cafes happen to be located. To the north of Campbell Parade’s extension visitors will find a wonderful local marketplace where various souvenirs and other products can be got at great prices. There are also a number of good Bondi accommodation options available around the beach.
One of the main activities which people undertake while visiting Bondi Beach or the nearby area would have to be enjoying the walk, jog or bike ride along the oceanside path that connects Bondi Beach with Coogee farther to the south. This walk presents people with the opportunity not only to take in the excellent scenery and to stay fit, but also to enjoy various activities along the way and find various establishments to refresh themselves, find a bite to eat or something to drink, etc.
Bondi to Coogee Walk
The walk averages a little over two hours for people that don’t dilly-dally too much along the way and who walk at a fairly steady pace, though many people prefer to take it slower and take advantage of the things to do along the route. There is the chance to do a little scuba diving if you stop at Gordon’s Bay as well as the opportunity to check out the graves of many of Australia’s famous historic and recent figures at Waverley Cemetery (which also offers marvelous views of the ocean and coastline). Several small beaches interrupt the trajectory of the walk, and as mentioned there is no shortage of cafes and food joints to take advantage of as you go about building up your appetite.
